Shutting the Mouths of the Self-Righteous (Romans 3:9-20)
What then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin; as it is written, “THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD; ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE.” “THEIR THROAT IS AN OPEN GRAVE, WITH THEIR TONGUES THEY KEEP DECEIVING,” “THE POISON OF ASPS IS UNDER THEIR LIPS”; “WHOSE MOUTH IS FULL OF CURSING AND BITTERNESS”; “THEIR FEET ARE SWIFT TO SHED BLOOD, DESTRUCTION AND MISERY ARE IN THEIR PATHS, AND THE PATH OF PEACE HAVE THEY NOT KNOWN.” “THERE IS NO FEAR OF GOD BEFORE THEIR EYES.” Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may become accountable to God; because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

Paul declares in Romans 1:18-32 God’s condemnation of all mankind. This condemnation is based upon man’s rejection of God’s self-revelation through creation. Enthusiastically, the self-righteous Jews accept Paul’s words as an indictment of the Gentiles, failing to recognize they too are condemned. In chapter 2 Paul pointedly turns to the Jews, condemning them on the basis of their hypocrisy. They neither live in accordance with the standard by which they judge others guilty nor in accordance with what they teach. Paul presses on in chapter 3 to show the sinfulness of these self-righteous Jews as they justify their own sin, while questioning God’s justice for judging them. In this concluding section of Romans 3:9-20, Paul seeks to silence once and for all the self-righteous Jews. He does this by proving from the Old Testament Scriptures that Jews and Gentiles alike are under sin and worthy of divine judgment. Comparing themselves with others is certainly no basis for their own justification. He reminds the Jews of the function of the Law in their lives: the Law was not given to make them righteous; it was given to show them their unrighteousness.

I can do any thing I so desire... Now, why don't you go shopping and stop acting like a child. If you think I was kidding about not pursuing this stupidity, you are wrong...I am done with this...go do something constructive and/or argue with yourself, because I am done with your crapola!

Oh and by the way unless my calandar is seriously out of whack Christmas is a month away Ah, yes. Christmas day is a month away but traditionally, in America, the Christmas Season starts the day after Thanksgiving. (commercially it started in mid October)

Unlike you, I have the responsibility of hosting 25-30 family members at a lodge in Michigan for the entire week of Christmas. This is a lot of work and I have been working on it all year, but it has come down to the last few weeks, where preparation is necessary. From food shopping, gift buying and wrapping, buying decorations and planning, my next few weeks will be full. Never the less...as I said, you have gotten very boring and really have nothing to offer as far as valuable discussion, so I really have no reason to want to correspond with a child-like left wing pimple on the butt of this board. I have tried to be nice, why not just concede that I have no interest in your assumptions and trying to change the very words I posted into your choice for the meaning of them..Now, I am moving on, I suggest you do the same.

If you had not taken those verses out of context you would be able to see that these verses follow God talking about Idols that people worship, which is not exactly what we do with Christmas trees. It is a symbol of the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and in no way do we worship the tree, but Jesus Christ.
There are superficial similarities between our Christmas tree and the tree of Isaiah or Jeremiah. The Christmas tree is, at best, a symbol. It is not something we worship as a god. Is it something we can do without? It certainly is. But is an idol, a profane thing that we worship, in which we place our trust? I think not.

Yeah you did, "the Christmas tree is a symbol of the celebration of Jesus,," or "the Christmas tree is at best a symbol," Trees and decorating were established long after Christ, which I don't have a problem, I love Christmas and everything that goes with it, which before I'm under serious interrogation also includes Christ. Malagouth and I are not the same person, I love the holidays, including saying Merry Christmas, Christmas songs, Christmas plays, trees, lights, Santa and Rudolph, Christmas dinner full on and giving to others.

The celebration of Jesus Christ's birth is why we have Christmas trees now, Katie. It is not the same as you saying it is a symbol of Christ...it is not. If that were the case, it would be considered an idol of sorts and we do not worship idols. It is kind of like a Birthday cake...it is an instrument of celebration of someone's birth, we don't celebrate the cake, we don't worship the cake, we simply have it to celebrate the birth...
Yes, it did start out as a pagan thing, but in today's world it is no longer pagan, but part of the celebration of Christ's birth. Much like the manager scenes we display...just one part of how we celebrate the birth of our Savior.
