A Grunt Remembers
Lush green jungles Torrential rains Rice paddies Endless patrols on narrow trails Mosquitoes big enough to carry you off Sand bags and barbed wire Incoming!!! Distant gunfire and artillery twenty four-seven Boredom, mail call, news from home Perimeter guard Charlie's in the wire!!! Gut wrenching fear Kill or be killed God, Help Me!!! Freedom bird...... The nightmares begin

A Soldier Dreams
He was young, brash, and full of himself No plans were laid for the rest of his life There was lots of time to do that Life was dull or so he thought so He joined the Army for a thrill Boot Camp was hard, but he made it okay And stood tall with the rest on graduation day His accomplishments, he knew, had made him a man Now he was off to Vietnam They sent him to a camp way out on a hill Then gave him a shovel and sandbags to fill The days were hot on top of that hill But they had barbed wire fences and bunkers to build At night they stood guard on top of their hill They had no place to go and lots of time to kill This night was different, the air was too still Then in the distance he heard, Thump! thumpthump! And in just seconds three of his buddies were killed The hill came alive with men in an on coming wave Rockets and mortars around him exploded As into the dark his gun he unloaded Three more times that night Charlie attacked Only to be beaten back again and again As Dawn approached the battle subsided And he puked in his boots as he counted Twenty dead men just yards in front of his hole There was no time to rest and so much to do But he sat down and cried when he learned Seventy Four of his comrades had died All these years later he lies on his bed Wondering why are these memories flooding his head I thought time was supposed to end all these fears And why, Dear God, do I still shed these tears

alas, poor lancelot
alas poor lancelot his hey day long gone lounges about the castle sipping grog from his silver chalice badgering those 'round the round table with fables and out right lies his armor rusting slowly his sword and banner not used in many years these days he gets all gloomy 'cause he can no longer use his lance a lot

all the girls
they say all the girls get prettier at closing time but I'm here to debunk that lie when you've had a few too many old one eye really don't care which honey pot you dip him in I've been there a time or two so I can tell you in the morning all you care about is how much did it cost you for a few minutes with medusa's sister and how are you going to escape without waking her up

another blank page taunts me daring me to scribble something poignant something relevant to world events or just anything to fill the void I will have none of that laughing to myself I walk away satisfied that I won again

apocalypse
dancing to the devil's dirge frog leaping tombstones hiding amongst the lost in a crumbling crypt firey demons heed the serpents call souls in purgatory wail seeking their release brides and mothers weeping and the apocalypse is only hours old the horsemen ride bringing vengeance
